The Functional Medicine Tree

The Functional Medicine Tree

Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease.

As mentioned in last months blog I went on an interesting Functional Medicine conference in Edinburgh at the beginning of December 2018.

The Functional Medicine Tree
We need to firstly look at the foundational lifestyle factors, such as sleep, exercise, nutrition, toxins, stress management, relationships, and genetics. These are the roots and soil, which are in turn influenced by specific predisposing factors and ongoing physiological processes , and may then result in fundamental imbalances at the trunk.

Signs and symptoms that affect the various organ systems are the “leaves” of the tree.

We address the “leaves” of the tree and spend our time investigating and addressing the “roots” of the tree.

How is Functional Medicine different?
It shifts the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach.

  • Patient Centred
  • Health Oriented
  • Holistic
  • Preventative approach
  • Looks at underlying causes of disease
  • determines how and why illness occurs and restores health
  • targets specific manifestations of disease in each individual.

As a practitioner I will spend time with you, listening to your history and look at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence your long-term health. I support the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual I see.

As a Functional Medicine practitioners I will spend time with you addresses the whole of you, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Please feel free to contact me if you require further information. I’m happy to answer any questions. Contact Janet
